[Let's say they're at the IKEA because Fukuzawa hasn't met him yet and that's a fun place. He's going to notice that Eiden looks different from all the strange people around them, which is why he addresses him.]

Young man, you notice something strange about all of this, yes?

[ hello we love ikea. eiden is here in the cafeteria drinking some of the cafeteria coffee while topper is just splooted out in his lap. when he's addressed, he hums. whoa. ]

[Oh hello Topper. Fukuzawa watches him for a moment and a hint of a smile appears on his face. What a cute animal. But then back to Eiden.]

Yeah. When I was on the crosswalk a couple just walked right through me. It's like we aren't even here, really.

And yet we are served food if we request it.

Yeah... I mean, I guess we can't play the game if we're double... [ ? ] dead... or whatever.

Could be some kind of magic? [ shot in the dark? ] Could be part of it.

I did consider an ability, but it seems quite all-encompassing if it's that. Something like this would be hard to maintain for more than a few hours, and would fail entirely when the user fell asleep.

[ man he's actually thinking, swinging his legs on the chair ] Being able to be served means there's some expectation that we should eat... right? Which means we still need sustenance? So are we actually dead?

Exactly. And if that is so, then we are likely to get tired too and need sleep. Both of these things are unneeded by the dead, which means we might not be dead after all.

[He kind of wishes Ranpo were here, that young man would be at least able to figure this out instantly.]

I hate not knowing for sure... [ a beat ] Actually, I don't even know if I want to know if I'm dead, I...

[ topper just cheeps a little sadly. maybe he just Knows and gives eiden's chin a little headbutt. ]

No. He's my... Item. [ pointing to his phone where he's been kind of lazily scrolling through profiles. topper chirps sadly :( ] He's innocent, don't involve him.

Someone might be missing him then, if his home is not with you.

Yeah... nah. It's with Quincy, I just... visit sometimes. Or he does. I know he misses him for sure.

[ he glances at his phone and scrolls a little. ]

It would be more accurate to say I run a detective agency. My subordinates are the ones who do the detective work.
